Driving Directions

Airline Info below

Driving time from Boston via I-95: About five hours.

From US I-95, take exit 130 in Waterville.  Turn left onto 104 then 139 west.  At Norridgewock, go to the light, and then turn right onto Routes 201A and 8.  Travel north to Madison.

In Madison, you'll come to a traffic light where 201A & 8 make a sharp left.  Follow 201A & 8 across the bridge over the Kennebec River.

After crossing the river, turn right to continue on 201A & 8 to North Anson.

At North Anson, turn left onto Route 16.  Follow Rt. 16 for about 8.5 miles.  You'll come to North New Portland.

In the village look for Long Falls Dam Road.  When Rt. 16 turns left (to Kingfield), Long Falls Dam Road more or less goes straight.

  • Stay on Long Falls Dam Road for approximately 10.3 miles.   Watch for a sign for Claybrook Mountain Lodge on the right (across from the turn onto Old County Road).
  • At the sign, turn left onto Old County Road (unpaved).  Continue on Old County for about .4 miles.
  • Then turn right onto Howard Hill Road.  (There's a street sign for Howard Hill Road!) Claybrook Mountain Lodge is the first place on the right.

The nearest major airports are Portland (PWM) and Bangor (BGR).  Additional flights services are available through the Augusta Airport (AUG).   (Click on any of the above airport links for carrier and scheduling info.)

Driving from Portland International Jetport and Augusta State Airport: North on I-95 and follow the directions above.  Portland is about 2.5 hours from Claybrook Mountain Lodge and Augusta is 1.5 hours away.

Driving from Bangor International Airport: South on I-95 to the Newport exit #157.  Then Route 2 from Newport to Skowhegan. North on Route 201 out of town, then left onto Route 148 to Madison. Drive straight through the light in Madison and cross the bridge to Anson. Turn right  onto Route 201A/8 to North Anson.  Then follow the Driving Directions above (from 3rd paragraph--"At North Anson...").  Bangor is about two hours from Claybrook Mountain Lodge.

(Alternate driving route)

From US I-95 take Route 27 North (Exit 112B in Augusta).  Stay on Rt. 27 through Farmington and New Vineyard.  At New Portland, turn right onto Rt. 146.  At the junction of Rt. 16, turn right.  When Rt. 16 makes a sharp right (with Morton's Store diagonally across the street), turn left onto Long Falls Dam Road.  Then follow the directions above.
